Mockingjay-Review

I know Mockingjay  written by Suzanne Collins has been out for months now, but I stumbled across The Hunger Games recently. I remember I got Mockingjay because of a dumb reason. I thought it was the same as To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I really wanted to read it.. I never got around reading it and when I finally picked it up, I realised it wasn't the first in the series. So I went on out to read The Hunger Games. Which is where my adventure began.

If you haven't read Mockingjay stop reading this post now to avoid major spoilers

There has been many mixed reviews about this book: A lot of people loved it, but some people didn't like it. I was actually in the middle.
                                                                 Part 1- The Ashes

Personally I found the beginning chapters a bit confusing and Part 1 dragged a bit for me. Not much happened in the first chapters. Katniss was put under a lot of emotional stress in the book, which I found fitting with the atmosphere of the book.  The "propos" were interesting. I loved Haymitch in this book. Haymitch has been one of my favorite characters after reading Catching Fire. He played his part very well and I found him as the Father figure in the book, because Haymitch was the one Katniss always turn to.
All through this book I kept wondering where Peeta was. Then he makes his appearance in Part 2.

                                                                Part 2- The Assault

This is when the bombing happened and District 13 had to go underground. I loved what Prim said: [chapter 10,pg 151]

"So, what do you think they'll do to him?" I [Katniss] asks.
Prim sounds about a thousand years old when she speaks.
"Whatever it takes to break you."

I loved the twist when Peeta goes mad. It was so surprising and crazy to see Peeta not loving Katniss.I also loved Finnick and Annie. There reunion was so sweet in the hospital. They are probably my favorite couple.
The whole "Team Gale" Team Peeta" concept was very well portrayed because that wasn't the main prospect of the book and I'm glad it isn't a whole Twilight thing. I sort of thought it was predictable. I mean, I guessed half-way through that Katniss will end up with Peeta. Especially after this:[pg 197, Chapter 14]

Then he says," I saw Peeta yesterday. Through the glass."
   "What'd you think?" I ask.
   "Something selfish," says Gale.
"That you don't have to be jealous of him anymore?"
My finger give a yank, and a cloud of feather floats down around us.
" No just the opposite." Gale pulls a feather out of my hair. " I thought...I'll never compete with that. No matter how much pain I'm in." He spins a the feather between his thumb and forefinger. " I don't stand a chance if he doesn't get better. You'll never be able to let him go. You'll always feel wrong about being with me."

Then, of course Katniss says that she'll never be with Peeta again...something along those lines which confuses me even more.

                                                               Part 3- The Assassin

My theory was that Katniss would attempt to kill Snow, but would die trying, and Peeta and Gale would be left with the job of killing him. Obviously that doesn't happen. I loved the part Peeta tells Gale that the next move is for them to kill him.
Ooh...Finnick. I couldn't believe that. Finnick was so AMAZING. Right after he got married. Reminds me of Lupin/Tonks.
Many deaths including, such a shocker, Prim. Then Katniss goes into this world of confusion. This death surprised and upset me A LOT, but it was so confusing because you're all like, "Where did those parachutes from?" That death was pretty sad.
Ha-ha, I originally thought that Katniss's Mother and Gale's Mother would start their own rebellion. Something like Mrs. Weasley in  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
One of my absolute favorite scenes in Mockinjay was[pg 358 Chapter 25 :

   " I don't believe you."
Snow shakes his head in mock disappointment. " Oh my dear Miss Everdeen. I thought we agreed not to lie to each other.

Loved the twist about Coin. Never liked her. Probably because she said she'd rather save Peeta then Katniss. Or maybe it was the hair, I don't know.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the end, Katniss ends up with Peeta which is what I thought was the best choice. What I don't like is when people say Gale isn't with Katniss because he blew up Prim. I just find that not true, because it doesn't specifically say that's true or not. But in the end Peeta is much more suitable. I think of Gale as Katniss's past, and Peeta is Katniss's present and future. Gale and Katniss don't have much to relate to anymore. I think the ending was perfect[ pg 388] :

Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashbacks are over. I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips, On the night I felt the thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know that this would of happened anyway. That what I need yo survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.
So after, when he whispers, " You love me. Real or not real?"
   I tell him, " Real."
                                                                EPILOGUE

The Epilogue was sweet, Katniss had babies! Reminded me of Harry Potter. Especially when it says the part of Annie's and Finnick's child. Tonks,Lupin and Teddy! Aaah, memories...

what did you think?
